March 2006: Tui Technology recently completed the supply and implemenation of control systems and operator Scada system for a greenfield sawmill for TDC Sawmills, Whangarei. Machines include new log infeed from Kitsell in Finland, new debarker from Valon Kone, new Hewsaw R250 Trio Logline from Veisto of Finland, along with Binsorter and Stacker. Scope included machine control, scada operator control, Scan and Set functionality using solution from USNR Scanning, Supply of variable speed drives and setworks positioning for 70 axes. Lakeland Optimizing Saw
January 2009:Designed electrical control system, electrical drawings, manuals for the latest Lakeland optimizing saw. The boards are marked with fluroecent crayons which are then scanned and optimized by a S7-300 PLC, the optimization result is then passed to a Siemens Simotion/Sinamic's motion controller which handles the control of the saw and outfeed kicking belt. The saw can position boards very accurately at speeds up to 200m/min. After the shooks/components are cut they are kicked into bins which the operator defines. Blenheim, Marlborough, New Zealand.

Ravenshoe Glue System
October 2008: Build electrical cabinet, electrical drawings, operating manual and write PLC code for glue applicator pump for a Grecon Turbo S finger jointer. The glue that was going to be applied was a PUR type. The pump speed was controlled by a VSD, required speed and valve timing was worked out by the PLC based on the speed that the finger jointer was moving. The valve timing was then adjusted by looking at the pressure in the glue line to ensure that a even application of glue was achived. The site noticed a large reduction of glue usage straight away. Press Relay logic replacement
August 2007:When the Christchurch Press faulted and couldn’t produce a Friday news paper they contracted Tui to sort the problem out. We replaced the analog drive system controllers with two modern DC drives that gave them redundantcy. Christchurch, New Zealand.
Fiber Fresh Press Ram Position Control
October 2008: Changed the control of the main press rams from on/off control valves to a closed loop position control using proportional valves with Temposonic probes to provide position feedback. The program was then modified so that the ram would slow down just before the end of the product was pressed out of the end of the press. This slow down position automatically adjusts itself as the volume of product being pressed varies throughout the day. This upgrade has made the operation of the presses much easier, a first time operator can now use the press and not drop any bags which before the modification was very hard to do. Moutere 2006 Carriage Winch Upgrade
July 2006: Replaced manually operated valve that controlled the winch with a proportional valve controlled by the PLC. Cutting speed of the winch is controlled by the PLC. The operator has the ability to put the machine into auto once cutting pattern selected, PLC will then cut log automatically. The pre-position carriage valves were also changed, this is now position controlled making the operation much faster. A Danfoss joystick was installed for the operator. Nelson, New Zealand.

Fiber Fresh Mixing Decks
April 2009: Complete new control system to control existing mixing decks. Original control was completely manual. The new control system includes a remote control for the loader driver so that he does not have to get out of the loader to start and stop the system. Belt weighing to measure how much product has been feed from the decks and the rate at which it is entering the mixer, this rate is used to work out the required Molasses flow rate. The Molasses flow rate is now controlled by a flow valve with feed back to the PLC so is running as a closed loop PID to ensure that the correct amount of Molasses is being applied. There has been load sensing put onto most motors to ensure that they are running and not under or over loaded, this is to prevent major blockages as things are detected as being a problem and something is done about it straight away. A variable message display was installed so the loader driver can see the status of the system and production statistics to ensure that the correct amount of product is mixed.
